Continuing Nursing Education Requirements

Many nurses look for approved SCNA/ANCC contact hours when making educational activity decisions. Because SCNA is ANCC/COA accredited, its approval is recognized by all other state nurses associations and most state boards of nursing. Nurses licensed in other states are advised to check on that state’s specific requirements regarding reciprocity.

Nurses in South Carolina may demonstrate Continuing Competence through continuing nursing education.  For Competency Options see the South Carolina Board of Nursing Competency Requirements.

The South Carolina Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

The APPROVER process is available to groups outside of SCNA for their Continuing Nursing Education Activities.   There are two options available for approved Continuing Nursing Education:  1. Individual Educational Activity uses the 2022 CEAC Manual and  2. Approved Provider Status uses the 2022 CEAC Manual.   If you are an SCNA Approved Provider do not use the Individual Educational Activity Forms for providing reports.

1. Individual Nursing Continuing Professional Development Activity

Approval of an educational activity ensures participants that the activity/program meets professional standards for continuing nursing education.

Prior to planning, implementing, and evaluating a learning activity or if you are deciding whether to pursue Approved Provider status, you can contact the SCNA Continuing Education Approver Committee (CEAC) to help you.  Complete the application, make the review fee payment, and then satisfy any criteria the reviewers cite during the review process. Your activity will be approved for two years and can be delivered as often as you like to as many learners as possible as long as the program content and faculty do not change.
